Questo mare - This Sea
I have been practicing diving since I was 10 years old and never imagined that the sea would become a recurring idea in my music. When composing, I increasingly integrate technique with abstract ideas in a subtle way, enjoying the transition from technique to the poetics of the piece. As in previous compositions, the sea is the idea that suggests movement, infinity, depth, and color - concepts that can be thought of musically. In this piece, there is calm. These are deep waters. I was inspired by Giacomo Leopardi's poem "Infinito" (1798-1837), written in 1819, which culminates with these evocative lines: "Il naufragar m'e dolce in questo mare" - To shipwreck is sweet to me in this sea. The piano and cello navigate slowly in this sound flow. This piece represents an attempt in my music to discover what lies within tranquility, slowness, and suspended forms.
In diesem Stück herrscht Ruhe.
